Tiktok is expanding access to its "Effect House" AR creation tool, allowing all users in the world to build AR video effects and filters for use in the TikTok app. The tool, which has been in closed beta since last fall, allows users to build AR effects with a set of templates that helps to simplify the process.

March 31, 2022: Tiktok Library

Tiktok is partnering with GIPHY to roll out a new in-app video creation tool called Tiktok Library, allowing users to grab popular animated content and integrate them into their own clips. With this new feature, users will be able to add popular GIF clips into their videos to film reactions and responses, thus participating in meme trends in a much easier way. The Library will support GIPHY Clips categories like Reactions, Quotes, People and Iconic Moments.

March 29, 2022: Watch History Feature

TikTok is now testing a new Watch History feature which will save user’s time to locate a video desired. The “Watch History” option will appear under the “Content and Activity” heading of the settings.

March 21, 2022: The Pilot of Its Stories Feature

TikTok is expanding the pilot of its Stories feature, which lasts for 24 hours before they are automatically deleted. Users can view others’ stories by navigating their profile and clicking their profile picture, or by navigating the For You page. You can like a story and leave a public comment.

To post a story, click the “post” button on the bottom center navigation bar of the app, then scroll to a “quick” camera mode, which lets you post a photo or a video to your story. As the poster, you can see how many people viewed your story, but can’t see who viewed it.

March 17, 2022: Shoppable Recipes will be added into TikTok videos

Instacart rolls out a new “Shoppable Recipes” feature to launch new product integrations with TikTok. Shoppable Recipes will allow food creators to link shopping lists into their TikTok videos, which benefits both consumers and retailers a lot. The new feature includes a button that adds all of the required ingredients needed for a specific recipe to a user’s Instacart cart. For now, creators can choose recipes available on Tasty.co and other selected sites, but in the upcoming months, TikTok creators will gradually be able to create and link to their own custom Shoppable Recipe content.

March 11, 2022: SoundOn, A New Music Distribution Platform

TikTok has recently launched its own music marketing and distribution platform, SoundOn, aiming at helping more artists get their music heard. The new platform offers artists an access to upload their music directly to TikTok, Resso, in addition to Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora and so on, which will help artists broaden their fanbase and reach new music communnunities. After uploading music on SoundOn, artists will still retain all rights and royalties of their music. Now, the SoundOn platform is fully available in the U.S., U.K., Brazil and Indonesia.

January 25, 2022: Paid Creator Subscriptions testing

TIkTok is testing a paid subscription model that allows creators on the platform to charge people to view their content. Not much is known about the new trial period, how many people are testing the feature or how it may eventually be implemented.  But this direct-to-creator payment is believed to help enrich user’s TikTok experience and retain talented creators.

January 19, 2022: TikTok to integrates Stories with its main “For You” feed

Instead of having its own tab, TikTok Stories now show up in the “For You” feed. When you scroll down your feed, you can find that photos and videos from Stories are identified by a blue “Story” tag. You can upload your TikTok stories under the name “Quick” in camera mode. Just like Snapchat and Instagram Stories, photos and videos shared on TikTok Stories automatically disappear after 24 hours.
